First Snow

It's true - today we get our first snow for the winter in NYC. Click here for more photos of Washington Square with this morning's new fallen snow. For quite some time, we have been deluded into believing we would never see winter again - that El Nino, with global warming as a contributing factor, was turning New York into a subtropical zone. After all, two weeks ago we were sitting in parks with T-Shirts in 72 degree weather. 2006 has been the warmest year ever recorded in USA history. And NYC broke a 129-year record for the latest date for the first snowfall. Places outside the US, such as Sweden and Russia, have not yet seen snow. But as I write this in the early morning, the snow has already stopped and the sun is shining - spring is just around the corner...

Well it's about time!

I assure you, Winter is alive & well here in Seattle!!! In fact, it's been a neverending series of the harshest, most relentless, torturous storms, tree-topping winds, endless rain, hurricane gales, ice storms, freezing, more rain, more snow, more winds, more rain...

well you get the picture! All without so much as ONE single day of mild sunny weather really... just non-stop torment.

So I'm glad ya'll are overcoming your 'global warming'... I say, send a little our way PLEASE!

LOL!

John;
I aways thought Seattle had a milder, maritime climat. Is this abnormal?

The photos are really beautiful...but I'm glad it's getting sunny and melting. Too much salt on the streets and icy slipperiness in the city is not so much fun. Seems like snow is childhood's joy...

It is unheard of that this is your first snowfall of the season! We've had a lot of ice the past couple of weeks. I'm ready for spring.

The weather is changing seriously ! 14°C in Paris today, and we had the warmest autumn we never had

Yes, this is a the harshest winter I can recall... after living here 20 years. The awful thing is there have been no breaks in the weather. Usually every December and January there will be a week of mild, hazy weather... when the sun might peek out and you think winter isn't so bad.

But this year has been a relentless torture!

They are predicting 50 degrees and sun for next week... so that'll be the first break since October.

Usually I'm spotting the first crocuses by now.

I love the photo. We have been having snow for the past few weeks and it is still a novelty.
