Flora

Yesterday was the NYC GROWS Garden Festival which was held in Union Square. This event was NYC's celebration of National Garden Month. Our lady in the photo was created by Target, who sponsored the event. She was a big hit, with visitors taking photos of each other with her as backdrop. I thought she was beautifully done with all manner of plants/flowers so cleverly used and her bevy of topiary dogs. Click here for more photos. I am not a gardener but I can understand the benefits of being connected to something as important as plant life and seeing living things grow. In a time where everything is about speed and immediate gratification, gardening is a useful antidote by teaching patience - involvement in a process that can't be rushed, where one MUST wait for results. A useful metaphor - for many of the things of value in life take time to come to fruition. I asked a Target rep if she had a name and sadly, she did not. After considering many options this morning, I thought Flora might be an appropriate choice ...

I may not comment very often, but I still love your blog. Thanks for all of the beautiful photos. The text is sometimes too long (for my taste), but I know that you put a lot of effort into it. Thank you!

michael - Thanks much. When I first did the blog, there was a lot of concern about long posts. Many thought the text should be super short in a photoblog. But a) I am a research person, so this is my style and b) I really don't think of this as strictly a photoblog anymore. In many cases I think the text is more successful than the photo.

Well I definitely love the photos and if people really love the text...you certainly have a winner. I almost didn't leave the first comment because I didn't want you to take it the wrong way. I'm glad it seems you took it in the spirit for which it was intended.

I absolutely love your blog. Because of it, I am able to see what is going in NYC even though I cannot often come in these days. This blog is the most researched and educational of all the daily photo blogs I have read so far. And the photography is superb. I walked by the Scholastic building the other day and looked at it more closely because of your photograph. You definitely have a photographer's eye because I would not have seen it the same way. Thanks again.

michael, patricia, kate, twilight - thanks all for the extremely wonderful comments! I am very detail oriented and invest a lot more time on this than perhaps I should, so it is rewarding to get the type of kind compliments you have given. I hope to keep building the readership and do even more with the website.

PLEASE do not consider shortening your text. Your photography is stellar, but I probably wouldn't be a daily visitor if it weren't for the tidbits of info that you stack alongside the beautiful shots. Thank you so much!

Love this Photo and I for one, love the information of the photo just a much along with the additional photos--but I do have to say-if you could use a larger font-it would save my eyes alot of squeezing-its still small whether on a lap top or wide screen :)
