Easter Parade

I had never been to an Easter Parade before, much less the one in New York City along Fifth Ave., which they close from 10AM to 4PM for 8 city blocks. Although it is known for its "excesses", I still was not prepared for what turned out to be quite an outlandlish affair. I got off to a beautiful quiet morning opposite St. Patricks Cathedral, which had Masses all day. The parade is really more of a gathering, with participants and viewers comingling all day. The whole event really became more intense as the day went on. The dress ranged from the elegant to the spectacular. I hope you enjoy the collage - I took so many photos and the displays were so varied, it was impossible to settle on one image.

Very cool Brian! Looks like great fun. And I understand what you mean by "I took so many photos and the displays were so varied, it was impossible to settle on one image" It happens to me quite often...

I hope you all clicked on the photo for a larger view! I spent way too much time last nite selecting photos and building the montage (I had over 60 photos and some video). I had mixed feelings - I always lean to wanting to include more and going over the top in most things I do - I guess that New York City energy has gotten to me over the years. I certainly appreciate minimalism and the beauty of a single, well composed subject. I'm happy you all approve - thanks so much for the comments. It makes it all worthwhile.

I liked the collage. It is like seeing the the parade in person. It gives a feeling for the flow of the people.

clicked to see the larger image and was totally blown away by the sheer colour of it all. Are you sure it was just an Easter Parade? A lot of Pride looks like. Great collage Brian!
