Another blizzard. Last night I was called at midnight and informed there was a major snowfight going on in Washington Square Park. I was too lazy to bundle up and venture out for the photo op. However, I did begin taking photos yesterday, going into last night and into this morning.
I have done many stories on this winter's blizzards and past snowstorms in New York City. I have also done a series of stories called White By Design. See the links below.

Good luck and thanks for sharing your photographies. J
Lovely photos!
These are gorgeous photos of the snow.
Sorry New York is getting whacked so hard by winter, but these are some beautiful photos, Brian. Especially the first one, with the tiny dot of color of the NYU flag.
I always find snow scenes hard to photograph. You obviously don't!
Superb.
Isabel, Sharob, Terry B - thanks.
An Honest Man - There are a few secrets here. Number 1, camera meters rarely give you the setting you want. For snow, I exposure compensate on the PLUS side - as much as one stop.
Number 2 - you really have to use photoshop for digital photography. If you saw the original before and after, you would be shocked. Levels, brightness, contrast, shadow/highlights all are adjusted.
Wonderful shot Brian.... I am never disappointed by the photos you take around the city!
The first photo looks like it was shot with a large format camera! What did you really use!!!
Siempre te leo..excelente!!..desde Venezuela
That first shot is a total winner. Cy Twombley, anyone?
charming! love your blog:)
Love that first shot especially!
Abecedarian - sorry to say it was taken with a Canon S90 point and shoot which I carry daily. I do own a DSLR Canon 30D (and even 4x5 for studio graphics which I no longer use). The other photos were taken with the Canon 30D.
Oakland & Mary P - Thanks, that was my favorite also. The original looks better on screen in Photoshop.
Love the purple NYU flag. Just the right amount of color.
Eleanor - I see you, as well as others, are attentive to photo details. :)
Brian--- Love your BLOG! Great to "feel" the opposite coast every day from Seattle! Have you posted a view into your window? Love how you tell so many stories looking out! :) amy
PS Wishing we had your snow in WA!
Brian, you are so kind to share your "secrets" - a true teacher to those who crave the stuff!
Gratefully, a student!
I like New York that time of the year. Despite the cold weather it's fantastic!
Great photos to capture the craziness this winter has brought on. Thanks for sharing.
